The first grade got to experience what is was like to be a Pilgrim coming to America for the first time today. They started their journey aboard the Mayflower where they learned that there was not much room. They ate beef jerky and cheese while they were on the journey. When they arrived on land, they had to build their houses with pretzel sticks and peanut butter. They thought this way a yummy way to build houses. After their houses were built, they had to learn to hunt for food. They hunted around the classroom for fish, mussels, deer, corn, wheat and berries. After all their hard work, they got to learn a couple of games that the pilgrim and Native Americans used to play. They play a game with marbles and a "knicker box" and made a pin game to take home with them. While they played their games, they helped make butter. Finally, after all this fun, they enjoyed a feast of popcorn, grapes, cheese, summer sausage, raisins, and, OF COURSE, pumpkin pie! We had enough feast to share with a couple other classes too! Happy Thanksgiving!
